Video from Week 11

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose the video Matisse and Picasso because I really didn’t know much about either painter and I wanted to learn more about them both.  I chose the film about Seurat’s painting A Sunday on Le Grande Jatte because I remember learning about Seurat in high school, my teacher had a saying “Seurat, Suerat painted with a dot.” This helped us remember the style of painting that he used while painting. It was the thing I remembered most from my high school art class.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Matisse always had a fear of painting. He was always scared of what to paint and where his inspiration would come from. He stated that he would wait for something that inspired him. Objects were his passion. He would only want to paint objects that others thought nothing of.
A Sunday on Le Grande Jatte- Seurat had a lot of things that influenced him during his career. The Egyptian culture the way that they portrayed their people is very similar to the way Seurat had. Seurat always painted them facing the side which is the way that they Egyptians had.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos gave a lot more understanding than the book. It went into a more in-depth review of the artists and more details about their lives and their works. Also, what influenced their paintings.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
The videos were fairly good. They gave more understanding and information about the artists which is why I had chosen them to view.  They gave more information about how they chose what to paint and what inspired them to paint certain material.
